Given the nature of homophobia that exists in America I can understand the parents reluctance to disclose this information. However negating to reveal Tichardson's sexual orientation may have placed Ms. Richardson in jeapardy as valuable leads could have been lost. For example: I wondered why she was set free in an industrial area. Well most gay and lesbian clubs are in areas that are industrial or otherwise desolate. In addition there are men who sometimes attend these clubs. Maybe Richardson had a stalker or someone watching and waiting for an opportunity.
